South Africa: White Durban woman becomes completely paranoid after 6 hours gang rape by blacks
A Durban nurse who was gang-raped for six hours, while her fiance watched helplessly, says she lives her life in fear of it happening again.
And while she got “some closure” this week, when one of her rapists was sentenced to three life terms plus 27 years’ imprisonment, the 40-year-old woman says her life will never be the same.
After the sentencing of Tandaso Peterson Nombele, 29, in the Durban Regional Court this week, his victim said she had been in hospital six times for depression and post traumatic stress since the attack at Ansteys Beach on the Bluff in February 2007.
“I am completely paranoid. I am terrified and I don’t like going out. Each time I manage to pick myself up, I relapse. Sometimes I just don’t know how to live.”
The woman and her fiance were sitting on a blanket, having a picnic on the beach one evening when, at about 7pm, she noticed shadows crouching near her.
“I started screaming and running. But one got me and another got my fiance. I was trying to get away but he stabbed me and punched me.”

Energie Cottbus, a team in Germany’s second league, was set for a friendly pre-season match against Storkow’s football club Germania but pulled out on Wednesday, having learned that the extreme-right National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) would be protesting the event. Energie’s manager claimed he could not guarantee his players’ safety.

A 71-year-old woman accused of recruiting family members to marry foreigners seeking green cards plead guilty Wednesday to taking part in an immigration fraud conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors said Maria Refugia Camarillo, of Fort Worth, Texas, faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when she is sentenced in September. She also must provide a $35,000 lien on her home.
Investigators said that from the 1980s until last year, Camarillo and others ran a scheme in which U.S. citizens would marry foreigners willing to pay up to $12,000. Once married, the U.S. citizen could petition for their foreign spouse to receive U.S. permanent residence, also called a green card, and later U.S. citizenship.
Camarillo pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit fraud in connection with immigration documents. She and 15 other family members were charged in a 29-count indictment.
Camarillo recruited her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews into the conspiracy. The indictment was dismissed against one defendant, but the remainder have pleaded guilty and most are awaiting sentencing, federal prosecutors said.

Similar considerations apply to asylum seekers who are granted settlement. They may also apply to some low skilled immigrants from developing countries, perhaps admitted under family formation.
3. The paper examines the ‘total lifetime’ cost of a 25 year old immigrant who works for the minimum wage, marries, has two children, does not have a pension and therefore in retirement receives Pension Credit, and lives throughout in private rented housing. The evaluations in this paper take the costs from the date of marriage at aged 25 through 40 years of work to retirement at 65 years of age and then 15 years of retirement.

Danah Boyd said Facebook’s arrival sparked a migration from MySpace of white users, the educated and the wealthy, while non-whites had stuck together on MySpace.
MySpace is owned by News Corp, the parent company of the publisher of NEWS.com.au.
“It wasn’t just anyone who left MySpace to go to Facebook,” Ms Boyd, who works with Microsoft Research New England, told a crowd at New York’s Democracy Forum.
“We might as well face an uncomfortable reality … what happened was modern day ‘white flight’.”
Ms Boyd said MySpace had become a digital “ghetto”.
“The people there are more likely to be brown or black and to have a set of values that terrifies white society,” she said.

A woman from Brooklyn is angry because she says police didn’t want her sick dog in the subways. She is accused of making anti-Semitic remarks to the cop, and she says she didn’t do it.
Chrissie Brodigan had one of those days Monday. Her dog threw up while in his carrying case on the subway ride home, then she had a confrontation with police and then she got arrested for disorderly conduct.
As she exited the Bedford avenue subway station in Williamsburg, a police officer cited her for not having her pug - Dempsey - inside his carrying case, as required in city subways.
“The pug vomit was on me and the bag,” she said. “It’s sort of like a mom with a child who just threw up. You just want to get out of the subway.”

Russian ultranationalists are increasingly resorting to violence against authorities in response to a sweeping government crackdown on hate crime, an independent watchdog said Monday.
Right-wing radicals plotted explosions at police stations and military conscription offices in three Russian cities in early May, while several nationalist groups claimed responsibility for burning police cars and setting police stations ablaze earlier this year.
“The scale of neo-Nazi activities is impossible to ignore,” said Galina Kozhevnikova, the director of Sova, Russia’s top independent hate crime watchdog monitoring group.
She praised the government crackdown aimed at the right-wing Russian radical groups that often target racial minorities and immigrants in their grisly hate crimes.

The far-right Hungarian Guard, a radical nationalist organisation, must be dissolved because in the past its marches have fuelled ethnic tensions and led to a disruption of public order, a Hungarian court ruled on Thursday.
Politicians, human rights activists and Gypsy rights activists have criticised the Guard for staging intimidating marches nationwide to protest against the spread of petty crime it says is mostly committed by Gypsies. Critics say its black uniform and insignia are reminiscent of the Nazi era.
Hungary has one of the largest Gypsy communities in eastern Europe, accounting for 5-7 percent of its 10 million population.
Backed by far-right party Jobbik which won 3 seats in European elections last month, the Guard said that it would appeal at Hungary’s Supreme Court and the European Human Rights Court in Strasbourg, national news agency MTI reported.

Chyrotia Graham, of Erie, PA, told police that she and her son’s father had been drinking and having a bad argument early Sunday morning when things suddenly turned violent. Graham, 27, said that she simply “snapped” and started grabbing whatever was nearby and throwing them at Deangelo Troop, 20, who is the father of her son.
Without knowing what she was doing, Graham picked up her 4-week-old son, Jarron Troop, held him by his legs, and swung him at his father. Officials had originally thought the woman had held the baby by the midsection, but her own account was that she swung the baby by his legs. The infant’s head hit Troop, who is also the father of one of Graham’s other four children.

A couple leaving their home in Shreveport’s Pinecroft subdivision found “KILL WHITEY” written in spray paint on their driveway Wednesday evening.
“It’s not vandalism; it’s flat out racism or a threat,” Clifton Hair said Thursday afternoon, pointing at the white letters about a foot tall outside the gate at his residence in the 2100 block of McCutcheon Avenue.
“Why? What did we do? Just because we’re white?” the 69-year-old asked. “I can’t conceivably think of anything I could have done to offend anybody of any color to have this happen.”
Hair reported the incident to Shreveport police as a hate crime Thursday morning. The case is in line to be assigned to a detective in the Police Department’s special investigations office to check out Hair’s claim, Shreveport police Cpl. Bill Goodin said.

Women in Malmö have been given the right to bathe topless in the swimming pools of Sweden’s third largest city.
The city’s sports and recreation committee voted on Wednesday against a motion entitled: “Women with two-piece swimsuits ought to wear a top piece”.
The committee eventually settled on the wording that “everybody should wear bathing suits” at Malmö pools but there is no requirement for women to cover their breasts.
The city considered a vote to be necessary after several visits by the feminist Bara Bröst (Just Breasts/Bare Breasts) network to Malmö’s pools met with widely varying reactions.
The breast issue has proved divisive, with political wranglings leading to the question being struck off the agenda at an earlier meeting in April.

Possession of pornography is now a criminal offense in Ukraine, Lenta.ru reports, after Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed a law to that effect today. Human rights activists and members of the Ukrainian artistic community had asked the president to veto the law.
The draft of the law was prepared by the Ukrainian government. It was passed by the Ukrainian parliament, the Supreme Rada, on June 11.
Now pornography can be kept only “for medical purposes,” according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice. The ministry also warns that possession of a large number of identical images will be considered evidence of trading in pornography, which is also criminalized.
Punishment for possession of pornography will include fines and imprisonment for up to three years.

People who disagree with the president’s positions on immigration reform are among those being invited, he said.
“We know the votes aren’t there right now,” Gibbs said, adding that one way to try to change that is to talk about legislative approaches different from previous proposals.
Obama told the Esperanza National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast and Conference that U.S. borders must be strengthened to thwart illegal immigration. But he also supports giving the millions of people now in the U.S. illegally the chance to become citizens.

Of course they failed to link it to the figures in the recent Whitehall’s annual Regional Trends report which revealed that more than 700,000 children and teenagers in Britain are classed as non-white, and make up 40 percent of that age group in London.
Overall, rapes have more than doubled in five years and reported sex assaults have shot up from 165 in 2004/5 to 246 in 2008/9. The figures refer to cases on school grounds.
According to the new Met figures, almost 900 young boys and girls have been subjected to sex assaults including rape in London’s primary and secondary schools in the past five years.
The Met says that children as young as four have made allegations of rape. Commander Mark Simmons said the total of the reported sex assaults in independent and state schools could be as little as 10 percent of the real number occurring.

United Nations Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racism Githu Muigai has spent 10 days visiting various towns in Germany as part of a fact finding mission on the country’s relationship to immigrants and minority groups.
Speaking from his last stop in Berlin, Kenyan-born Muigai welcomed the fact that Germany, as a key European player, had finally resolved its status as an immigration country.
“The recognition that this country is today a country of immigration and will continue to be in the foreseeable future has made it possible for all involved to rededicate themselves to addressing the underlying problems that come with a multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious society,” he said.
Germany has come a long way since former Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s dogged insistence that it was not a country of immigration, Muigai added. Seven years ago the conservative Christian Democratic Union rephrased its former leader’s stance, saying that Germany was not a country of immigration in the sense that it had not been historically formed by immigrants.
