Australia’s prime minister-elect says the country’s 550 combat troops will leave Iraq by the middle of 2008. Kevin Rudd, who beat incumbent John Howard in last weekend’s election, had previously promised a gradual withdrawal of Australian troops.
He made the pledge in an Australian radio interview, but said there had been no discussions yet with the US. Under Mr Howard, Australia was a keen supporter of the US-led invasion and made an early troop commitment.
Most of Australia’s 1,500 troops are based in the south of Iraq, focusing on security and the training of Iraqi forces. “The combat force in Iraq, we would have home by around about the middle of next year,” Rudd told a Melbourne radio station, adding that he would leave behind some Australian soldiers, including those providing security at Australia’s embassy in Baghdad.
“We’ll have a meeting with the United States ambassador before too long to set up the appropriate processes for discussing that,” he said. Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd came to power in a landslide election victory on Saturday.
He has previously described the decision to go to war as the “single greatest error” of Australian national security and foreign policy decision-making since the Vietnam war.

The hypocrisy of modern “democracy” in Europe – where you are allowed to have any opinion as long as it does not differ from that defined by the establishment puppet parties – has been revealed once again with the jailing of German nationalist leader Horst Mahler for giving a Roman salute. Mahler was sentenced to six months in jail on Friday for giving a Roman salute, also used by the Nazi party, when reporting to prison to serve an earlier sentence. The court in Cottbus, eastern Germany, gave Mahler, a 71-year-old lawyer, one week to appeal to the sentence. Mahler admitted to giving the salute in November 2006 when he arrived at a jail in Cottbus to serve another sentence. He has six previous convictions for political crimes, including denying the Holocaust and giving the Hitler salute. In 2002, he was fined for praising the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States as “eminently efficient and therefore right”. The democrats have also barred him from practising law because of his “criminal record.”

Accompanied by body-armor vested London police officers, Lambeth Senior Trading Standards Officer Ray Bouch walks into a beauty and cosmetics shop on Brixton’s Electric Avenue.
Bouch works for the London borough’s Public Protection Unit — tasked with keeping everything from faulty condoms to illicit vodka off the streets. Today, he’s in search of contraband cosmetics: illegal skin bleaching creams British authorities say can be harmful to consumers. Within minutes, he’s found almost a dozen bars of soap listing a banned bleaching agent on the box. “Illegal bleaching creams and soaps are a major problem,” Bouch says. “And once we eradicate it from Brixton, it will go to another borough where there’s a big Asian or Black population.”
Skin bleaching — using chemical or natural products to lighten skin color — is common practice in the Americas, Africa, across Asia, and increasingly, in Europe. Psychologists say consumer demand can be traced to perceptions that lighter skinned or white people are more successful, intelligent and sexually desirable.

The pop singer Morrissey claims he can no longer live in a Britain he believes it to be lost to an “immigration explosion”. The former frontman of the Smiths, who is now based in Rome, claimed England was just ‘a memory now’. The 48-year-old added: “Other countries have held on to their basic identity yet it seems to me that England was thrown away. “The change in England is so rapid compared to the change in any other country. “If you walk through Knightsbridge on any bland day of the week you won’t hear an English accent. You’ll hear every accent under the sun apart from the British accent. The British identity is very attractive, I grew up into it and I find it quaint and very amusing.” In 1986, when The Smiths released their critically-acclaimed album The Queen is Dead, the UK had a population of 56 million. It now stands at 60 million and some predict that could almost double by 2081. Morrissey’s comments were made in interviews with the music magazine NME. In the mid-1990s he was accused of racism after wearing a Union Jack on stage and releasing the songs Bengali in Platforms and the ironically-named National Front Disco.

Protesting Negro parents shut down a Toronto District School Board meeting on Wednesday after realizing the issue of a Negro-focused school would not be discussed.
Dozens of supporters of a proposal to implement a Negro-focused school showed up to the meeting expecting to discuss details of a feasibility report on the issue.
The TDSB spent $300,000 preparing the controversial report, which is the first comprehensive survey that includes information on race and ethnicity. However, when parents realized that the report would not be discussed, many erupted in outrage.
“You guys have the power to make a decision and move on tonight!” one woman shouted. “We want to move on!”
Board chair Sheila Ward adjourned the meeting but it reconvened about an hour later. Lloyd McKell, the board’s executive officer of student and community equity, apologized to parents but he eventually adjourned the meeting again after more interruptions.
