50 Romanian gypsies illegally occupied a church in Berlin


Some 50 Romanian gypsies illegally occupied a Church in Berlin, German daily Berliner Umschau reads. They demand jobs, hourses and the possibility to enrol their children in German schools. The gypsies arrived in Berlin initially as tourists and lived for several weeks in a park. Bethania charity offered them a shelter in the meanwhile.

Finally, authorities offered them the possibility to move in a dorm for homeless people but the 50 people refused. Moreover, in the Bethania center some filed a report against them to the police for disturbing the peace.

After the incident the gypsies occupied a church in the Wrangelstrasse area where police forces can intervene only if allowed by church representatives. After 90 days, the legal time a tourist can stay in Germany, police forces will expel them.
