In Switzerland, fury over minaret ban poster
Zurich, the largest Swiss city, has permitted the use of a controversial poster which promotes a ban on the construction of minarets on mosques in Switzerland as a national referendum on the issue draws near.
The far-right Swiss People’s Party (SVP) is using the posters which show a veiled woman in front of a Swiss flag pierced by several minarets.
The anti-immigration party’s campaign has prompted strong opposition in the central European state, with Basel and Lausanne describing the posters as racist and banning them in publicly-owned spaces, Euronews reported.
The SVP, condemned by rights activists for inciting hatred toward Islam, argues that the mosque towers symbolize ideological opposition to the country’s constitution.

However, Zurich has chosen not to prohibit the poster. The mayor of the city, Corine Mauch, told CNN that although the city officials disapprove of the poster, the decision was taken on the basis of political freedom of speech in the run-up to the vote.
“We consulted the Federal Commission against racism and spoke to Muslim communities in the city, but decided banning the posters from public spaces would draw more attention to the issue.”
SVP’s controversial bid will be decided in a national referendum on November 29.
According to the latest opinion polls, most Swiss voters are against any ban on minaret construction, with the federal government and all the other major political parties recommending a ‘no’ vote.
Local Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders have also joined forces to reject a ban, AFP reported.

Swiss might loss a lot of money today, but Swiss would NOT lost their country and freedom on future. Good vote. Ban Islam now before Islam band you on your won country. You may lough and see there is no reason to ban minarets/Islam now, well, because you don’t know Islam at all. You just see muslim in you country is nice. You put your next generation as sacrifice. Once Islam get the majority, then you will say good bye to freedom. Look at how muslim operate their islamic country. That is the facts. Ban Islam now or lost will be bigger in future.
The Islamist nations Turkey included would never allow any symbol not associated with ALLAh to stand in their country. In fact Christians, muslims and Jews have never allowed any altar not related to their \One True God\ to exist. In fact St. Petyers Basilica in Rome is built on top of a former Pagan site. A minaret serves 2 purposes. 1. a visual cue to a Muslim community and 2. a vantage point for the call to Prayer. Don’t these people have alarm clocks or something to remind them of prayer time????? Or after a lifetime of following a religion wouldn’t you know when to pray???? I don’t understand the whole uproar over an issue like this. SWEDEN is NOT a Muslim territory so why should the majority have to bend to the minority? I reminds me of the Mexican situation here in America, we have to learn spanish to communicate, instead of them being required to learn English. Why should the host country have to bend to outsiders, born there or not they are outsiders regardless. Like I said ask turkey to build an alter to Thor, Odin, or even Christ and see what the reponse is.
