Flat-pack furniture giant Ikea launched its new catalogue on Thursday amid much coverage in the Swedish national press.

Each August, the arrival of the new Ikea catalogue is eagerly awaited in Sweden, and has become something of a national event. The catalogue is printed 198 million times and published all over the world, but Swedes really look forward to what must be one of the country’s most well-thumbed publications.

This year’s the catalogue’s theme is diversity - ‘mångfald’ - with Ikea claiming to offer even more living and interior solutions for the diverse way we live today.

In a press statement, Jeanette Söderberg, CEO for Ikea Sweden explained the thought behind the new catalogue’s diversity message.

“We are all different. We have different lifestyles, different tastes and different living situations. The diversity around us today isn’t just good, it is fantastic, giving more creativity and new points of view regarding our existence”, she said.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia: A couple of years ago, a Canadian magazine published an article arguing that the rise of Islam threatened Western values. The article’s tone was mocking and biting, but it said nothing that conservative magazines and blogs in the United States did not say every day without fear of legal reprisal.

Things are different here. The magazine is on trial.

Under Canadian law, there is a serious argument that the article contained hate speech and that its publisher, Maclean’s magazine, the nation’s leading newsweekly, should be forbidden from saying similar things, forced to publish a rebuttal and made to compensate Muslims for injuring their “dignity, feelings and self respect.”

The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, which held five days of hearings on those questions in Vancouver last week, will soon rule on whether Maclean’s violated a provincial hate speech law by stirring up animosity toward Muslims.

President George Bush lavished anniversary praise on Israel yesterday, as Palestinians commemorated the “Nakba” or “catastrophe” when 700,000 were forced from or fled their homes 60 years ago.

In a special address to the Israeli Knesset, Mr Bush declared that the US was proud to be the “closest ally and best friend in the world” of a nation that was a “homeland for the chosen people” and had “worked tirelessly for peace and… fought valiantly for freedom.”

And in a speech that linked together Hamas, Hizbollah and al-Qa’ida, the President likened those – including “good and decent” people – who urged negotiations with “terrorists and radicals”, with supporters of appeasing the Nazis before the Second World War.

ALIPAC Note: The Associated Press (AP) newswire service is the main way news travels across America into newspapers, radio stations, TV stations, etc… Again and again, we document the AP playing down these incidents, censoring material, and excluding key facts. The article on the top is the one broadcast by AP to the nation. It claims that the riot was gang related. Then when you read the LA Times local version of events, it indicates that the riot was race related. The AP censored the fact that students were separated by race while up to 600 students fought! While it is likely that illegal alien and drug importing gangs were involved, the scope was much larger. Many of the students at this school are illegal aliens or the children of illegal aliens.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a South Los Angeles high school was locked down and then dismissed early after hundreds of students scuffled during a lunchtime brawl that left many with minor injuries.

School district spokeswoman Nadia Gonzalez says about 600 students were involved in what appeared to be a gang-related fight that started around noon Friday at Locke High School.

German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble shut down two far-right organizations on grounds that they deny the Holocaust took place.

The minister accused the groups of being “reservoirs of organized Holocaust deniers” who distribute anti-Semitic propaganda and praise the Nazis over the Internet.

Authorities raided 30 locations looking for evidence early on Wednesday, May 7, taking evidence with them, a statement from Schaeuble said.

“Rightwing extremism has many faces, among them young neo-Nazis and similarly old Nazis,” Schaeuble said. “They have in common their rejection of our free democratic principles.”

A father has described his anger after he and his son were refused entry to their local swimming pool because they weren’t Muslims.

David Toube and Harry, five, were turned away by staff from the men-only session.

The council has now admitted that workers at Clissold Leisure Centre in Hackney, north London, made a mistake and offered the family an apology.

Mr Toube, 39, a lawyer, said they visited the baths at 9am on Sunday.

“I arrived at the pool to discover that they were holding what staff described to me as ‘Muslim men-only swimming’,” he said.

“I asked whether my son and I could go as we were both male. I was told that the session was for Muslims only and that we could not be admitted.”

Mr Toube then spoke to the duty manager, who confirmed he could not enter.

The new year faced young women living in Oslo with a new situation. During New Year’s Eve several brutal rapes took place in the Norwegian capital. The media hardly mentioned the fact that all the rapes were conducted by aliens of African descent. In the two months to follow it became clear that these rapes were just the start of a new trend. In the two last months, Arabs and aliens from Africa has gone on a raping-spree in Oslo. Every women between 12 and 40 seems to be a target for these rapists and the incidents, though mainly in the inner city, has been taking place in the suburbs as well. Even children are targeted. A 14 year old girl was brutally raped by two men of alien origin on the grounds of her school at Oppsal (an Oslo suburb) in January.

Home invasion

Home invasions has also taken place. This is a new phenomenon in Norway. Within hours two women were raped in their own apartments, one after the perpetrators had forced their way in as the woman was entering her flat, the other happened under unclear circumstances. Though common in the US, Norwegian women has not had to face this threat until now, and it is not yet clear what reactions to expect from the female population. Some tendencies can be observed, and even hard-core liberal newspapers print expressions by their female writers about the fear of African men and how this can be justified, even though it feels slightly racist.

The chairman of the Yesha rabbinical council and chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba, Rabbi Dov Lior, on Wednesday issued a halakhic ruling stating that it is forbidden by Jewish law to employ Arabs or rent homes to them.

In an interview published by “Eretz Israel Shelanu” (Our Land of Israel), to be distributed this Saturday in various synagogues, Lior said that “since this is a matter of endangering souls, it is clear that it is completely forbidden to employ them and rent houses to them in Israel. Their employment is forbidden not only at yeshivas, but at factories, hotels and everywhere.”

As the Israeli state increasingly invokes new outrages and atrocities against the Palestinians, in both the name of world Jewry and “democracy,” and as the United States wields now the guiding Zionist hammer against the Muslim and Arab world, the specter of “anti-Semitism” is rising again across the planet. So it is decreed by “anti-Semitic” monitoring organizations across the globe. Media pundits everywhere are standing up, as if on defensive cue, to condemn this increasing “plague” of anti-Jewish hostility. A few of the more courageous public commentators, however, delicately maneuver across nails and egg shells to declare an emphatic separation between rising “anti-Jewish” foment (the declared provenance of Nazis, the KKK, Muslim terrorists, and others virtually insane) and an “anti-Israel” outrage (this realm is considered to be — for a few special critics willing to stick their neck out at all — kosher, if handled very, very carefully).

In either case, whether one dares to criticize Jewry as a collective ideological entity, or whether one more deliberately condemns Israel as a monster state (however incongruously stepping widely around its expressly Jewish foundation, ideology, and infrastructure), for most Jews who monitor public currents about them with their usual microscopes, this critical playing field can only afford the inevitable closure: any critic of Jews or Israel is, at root, however you care to dribble the ball, an “anti-Semite.”

CAPE TOWN - In a damning report on Eskom’s skills situation, trade union Solidarity on Thursday revealed that 75% of Eskom’s 5,000 white staff are considering quitting the company.

In an attempt to stop the skills rot, Solidarity called for a moratorium on affirmative action for five years at the state power utility.Solidarity’s deputy general secretary Dirk Hermann said Eskom can impose the affirmative action moratorium without abandoning its commitment to transformation.

He said Eskom already achieved in March 2006 the 2014 black economic empowerment targets of 64% black managerial representation.

In addition, Eskom is close to reaching its own 64% black managerial representation target by 2010.

TEL AVIV, Israel - Sitting on a thin mattress in an underground bomb shelter that reeked of urine, Tasfa Mara said he’s happy where he is. The 24-year-old Eritrean escaped forced conscription, beatings and a treacherous trek across three countries before reaching his promised land. 

“Only Israel safe,” he said in patchy English, his hands and feet heavily bandaged from lacerations he suffered on the barbed-wire barricade between Egypt and Israel when crossing last week. “All African countries the same.”

Mara may not have a safe haven much longer. This week Israel plans to begin deporting thousands of African migrants who have slipped in through the porous southern border with Egypt. It remains unclear how the expulsions will be carried out and where Israel will send them.

Founded six decades ago in the wake of the Nazi genocide, Israel finds itself torn between a sense of duty to help people fleeing persecution and fears of an onslaught of illegal immigrants. The result has been a confused policy.

Olmert orders authorities to remove thousands of African asylum seekers by weekend 

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday directed Israeli authorities to deport thousands of African asylum seekers who have sneaked into Israel though the Egyptian border and whose lives would not be endangered if sent home, his office said.

The statement said the Africans should be expelled from Israel by the end of the week.

Asylum seekers have been infiltrating in larger numbers over the past year. More than 7,000 — mostly from Africa — have entered the country illegally through its border with Egypt, including more than 2,000 this year alone, said Michael Bavly, a representative in Israel of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Their route has been treacherous. On Sunday, Egyptian forces shot and killed an African woman who was trying to cross the border into Israel, a medical official said.

Five other Africans — two women and three men from Sudan, Eritrea and Ivory Coast — have been shot dead by Egyptian troops in separate incidents near the Egypt-Israel border since late January. They were believed to have paid hundreds of dollars to human traffickers to help them cross into Israel.
