Flat-pack furniture giant Ikea launched its new catalogue on Thursday amid much coverage in the Swedish national press.

Each August, the arrival of the new Ikea catalogue is eagerly awaited in Sweden, and has become something of a national event. The catalogue is printed 198 million times and published all over the world, but Swedes really look forward to what must be one of the country’s most well-thumbed publications.

This year’s the catalogue’s theme is diversity - ‘mångfald’ - with Ikea claiming to offer even more living and interior solutions for the diverse way we live today.

In a press statement, Jeanette Söderberg, CEO for Ikea Sweden explained the thought behind the new catalogue’s diversity message.

“We are all different. We have different lifestyles, different tastes and different living situations. The diversity around us today isn’t just good, it is fantastic, giving more creativity and new points of view regarding our existence”, she said.

Although the unfolding drama in the Caucasus has been a tragedy for its innocent victims, the response by America’s political and media elites has been an entertaining and delusional farce.

To recap events, the government of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia launched a surprise invasion of South Ossetia (an autonomous republic within Georgia that has been functionally independent since the break-up of the Soviet Union). On the night of August 8, the Georgian military – armed and trained by America and Israel – stormed through South Ossetia and overran the region’s putative capital city (leaving it a smoldering ruin). Thousands of Ossetian refugees poured northward to Russia, bringing harrowing tales of Georgian brutality. As the Georgian army swept through the countryside, they encountered groups of Russian peacekeepers, who had been stationed there years ago to monitor a previous ceasefire. Several of those Russian soldiers were killed by the advancing Georgian forces.

As anyone with a remote understanding of Russian history (and human nature) should have been able to predict, the Russians reacted rather badly. Before the Georgians could consolidate their “victory,” the Russians unleashed a devastating counterattack.

During the night of August 7, coinciding with the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, Georgia’s president Saakashvili ordered an all-out military attack on Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia.

The aerial bombardments and ground attacks were largely directed against civilian targets including residential areas, hospitals and the university. The provincial capital Tskhinvali was destroyed. The attacks resulted in some 1500 civilian deaths, according to both Russian and Western sources.  “The air and artillery bombardment left the provincial capital without water, food, electricity and gas. Horrified civilians crawled out of the basements into the streets as fighting eased, looking for supplies.” (AP, August 9, 2008). According to reports, some 34,000 people from South Ossetia have fled to Russia. (Deseret Morning News, Salt Lake City, August 10, 2008)

The importance and timing of this military operation must be carefully analyzed. It has far-reaching implications.

Georgia is an outpost of US and NATO forces, on the immediate border of the Russian Federation and within proximity of the Middle East Central Asian war theater. South Ossetia is also at the crossroads of strategic oil and gas pipeline routes.

John McCain distanced himself Monday from a top adviser who said another terrorist attack on U.S. soil this election year would benefit the Republican presidential candidate. Barack Obama’s campaign called the comment a “complete disgrace.”

Charlie Black, an adviser already in the spotlight for his past lobbying work, is quoted in the upcoming July 7 edition of Fortune magazine as saying such an attack “certainly would be a big advantage to him.” Black said Monday he regretted the comment.

Black is also quoted as saying the “unfortunate event” of the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto in December 2007 “helped us.”

Questioned about Black’s comments during a news conference, McCain said, “I cannot imagine why he would say it; it’s not true. I’ve worked tirelessly since 9/11 to prevent another attack on the United States of America. My record is very clear.”

Citing his work to establish a commission to investigate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States, as well as his membership on the Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain added: “I cannot imagine it, and so, if he said that - and I don’t know the context - I strenuously disagree.”

4) the glamourization of everything antithetical to white culture (from Tupac to Bob Marley),
5) the media’s agenda to hide the details about black crime from the public
6) naive enthusiasm and expectations for this era of so-called “post-racialism”
7) a lack of white, ethnic Europeans learning about their own cultures
the mainstream that non-whites enjoy (also, like 7, non-whites are seen as “ethnic” and look like a neat toy in a window display)

JERUSALEM – In an effort to combat what it calls Internet smears, Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign yesterday launched a website with the stated aimed of setting the record straight.

One of the main issues addressed by Obama’s “Fight the Smears” site is the contention the Illinois senators was once a Muslim.

“Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian,” states the site.

But as WND reported, public records in Indonesia listed Obama as a Muslim during his early years, and a number of childhood friends claimed to the media Obama was once a mosque-attending Muslim.

Obama’s campaign has several times wavered in response to reporters queries regarding the issue of Obama’s childhood faith.

Commenting on a recent Los Angeles Times report quoting a childhood friend stating Obama prayed in a mosque – something the presidential candidate said he never did – Obama’s campaign released a statement explaining the senator “has never been a practicing Muslim.”

Officials in Brussels are working on plans to ensure that the European Treaty is still implemented elsewhere if Ireland votes against it in the referendum.

Although measures such as creating an EU president, “foreign minister” and European diplomatic service may be delayed, they are still expected to be introduced.

One diplomat said a “bridging mechanism” was being discussed. If Ireland rejects the treaty, it may simply be removed from the list of signatories and will not be legally obliged to abide by it.

By late 2009 or early 2010, when Croatia joins the EU, an amending “Accession Treaty” will be signed by all members including Dublin.

Incorporated into it would be a series of protocol texts giving paper “opt-outs” on controversial Irish EU issues, such as taxation powers or greater military co-operation.

CIVIL liberties arguments do not apply when extremist organisations use the internet to spread hatred, B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) chair John Searle said last week.

“Clearly a line has to be drawn between freedom of speech, voicing of differing opinions – and material that just incites racial hatred, religious intolerance and violence. When that line is crossed, that material ought not to be freely available to all who log onto the web.”

Searle was responding to protests voiced by civil libertarians after a recent conference of state and federal attorneys-general proposed cutting off Australian internet access to hate groups.

State and federal attorneys-general met in Adelaide late last month to canvass options for empowering the Australian Communications and Media Authority to order internet service providers to cease hosting racist and anti-Semitic websites.

The ADC has joined groups from other com-munities welcoming the proposal.

A father has described his anger after he and his son were refused entry to their local swimming pool because they weren’t Muslims.

David Toube and Harry, five, were turned away by staff from the men-only session.

The council has now admitted that workers at Clissold Leisure Centre in Hackney, north London, made a mistake and offered the family an apology.

Mr Toube, 39, a lawyer, said they visited the baths at 9am on Sunday.

“I arrived at the pool to discover that they were holding what staff described to me as ‘Muslim men-only swimming’,” he said.

“I asked whether my son and I could go as we were both male. I was told that the session was for Muslims only and that we could not be admitted.”

Mr Toube then spoke to the duty manager, who confirmed he could not enter.

The U.S. State Dept.’s Office of Global Anti-Semitism now says the New Testament is a book of conspiracy theory! Yes, our government now rules that the Biblical record that Jews had Christ crucified is not only anti-Semitic; it’s conspiracy junk. This step toward criminalization of Christian beliefs directly threatens believers. It is also an act of blatant hypocrisy: While the New Testament is derided as “hate speech,” not a word is said about the seething hatred contained in Judaism’s most sacred book, the Talmud.

The State Department reports, “The tactics of many anti-Semitic groups include the propagation of conspiracy theories… Traditional conspiracy theories…” include the belief   “…that the Jews are responsible for the death of Christ.” 1 For tens of millions, the New Testament is anything but conspiracy theory! It’s the written Word of God.

In its recent report to Congress, the U.S. State Department “Office of Global Anti-Semitism” makes a startling policy statement. It says the New Testament record that the Jews had Christ crucified is “classical anti-Semitism” — a historic form of hate. 1
In its 2005 report to Congress, the State Department included as an “anti-Semitic incident” the case of a Polish priest who said Jews killed Christ. A daily News Paper in Denmark ran an article in Sundays edition entitled ‘Anal Sex is healthy for men’. The author, a Danish `Sexologist` Mr Robert Lubarski, writes that `men should surrender themselves to their sexuality, and that it was time that the social spotlight was shone on the `Male Orgasm`. He continues that ‘Men who allow the accepted male role to dictate their habits in the bedroom are negatively affecting themselves’ and that some men who have experienced Anal Sex worry that they might be Homosexual (a fair bet I think). He is concerned that today’s man focus’s too much on what he believes is his expected part to play sexually, instead of simply enjoying himself.

BERLIN — Germany’s Jewish representative body has filed suite against YouTube and its parent company Google, demanding a court order for the website to be permanently purged of anti-Semitic videos.

“The radical right-wing scene is using YouTube massively as a platform,” said Stephan Kramer, secretary general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the umbrella body of Germany’s Jewish communities.

“We are accusing Google, with its YouTube video platform subsidiary of being an accomplice to inciting racial hatred and discrimination.”

“We applied this week for an injunction from a court in Hamburg,” he added.

The videos, Kramer claims, include one showing a picture of Paul Spiegel, a deceased former head of the Central Council of Jews, being burned with a swastika in the background.

Robert Mugabe turns the screw on Zimbabwe’s dwindling white farmers

President Robert Mugabe’s regime is stepping up its intimidation of Zimbabwe’s white farmers as he seeks a sixth term in office.A few hundred landowners managed to stay put on small portions of their original properties despite Mr Mugabe’s land seizures, which began in 2000 and destroyed commercial agriculture, the backbone of the economy. But the president’s re-election campaign ahead of next weekend’s election is driven by the notion that the country’s independence is under threat.

He has long presented the farm confiscations as part of Zimbabwe’s struggle for freedom.

Deon Theron, a vice-president of the Commercial Farmers Union, is on trial in Harare magistrates’ court. He faces a two-year prison sentence if he is convicted of trespassing on the farm he bought 24 years ago.

His farm in Beatrice, about 40 miles south of Harare, used to produce about two per cent of all the milk consumed in the capital, but an eviction order was issued against the Therons a year ago.
